Jon Halliday (The Grove 1966/3)

"Jon", son of Betty and Alec Halliday and brother of Corrie, passed away suddenly from bronchial pneumonia in Sydenham, Kent on 27th May 2017, ages 64. Jon was born in Dunedin, New Zealand on 24th May 1953. He is survived by two sisters, Sarah Marsh and Jane Armstrong, two nephews James Armstrong and Fletcher Marsh, a niece D'Arcy Marsh. Jon is remembered for his days at Harrow when he was a Triple Blood and Captain of the Harrow Cricket XI in 1971. He and Corrie had played together in the sides of 1969 and 1970. Jon delighted the crowds with his slow left arm spin bowling prowess and ability to bar or field the team out of tricky situations. After leaving School, Jon played for the Harrow Wanderers and valued highly the games and friends he had around him, particularly on the annual Northern Tour. Although a brilliant rugby player, he spent the winter months playing for the Old Harrovian Association Football Club, serving a Hon Secretary from 1977 to 1979. His keen interest in birdwatching and current events stayed with him throughout his life. Jon's family and friends mourn his passing: a private funeral service and burial was held at North Sheen Cemetery on 5th July.
